Taamboolava koLLo is a beautiful and soulful composition that showcases Purandara Daasarus devotion and intimacy towards the Lord. A very rare kruti that not many singers have sung this kriti.. I have tried my best to give the translation and also word by word meaning of this song to the best of my ability ..Please share your feedback.

WORD BY WORD MEANING 

Taamboolava = Betal leaves, arecanut and lime...made for chewing usually after dinner  

koLLo= please receive (as offering) 

Thamana = Thamana demon

mardhanane = one who slayed

Kamala = Lotus

vadhanane = faced

Ambujaakshi = Lotus eyed Goddess Lakshmi

modhadim = Lovingly 

madichi = folded

koduthaale = she gives


sampigeNNe = aromatic oil made from Champaka flowers

 Attaru= mixture of aromatic essential oils to give pleasant fragrance 

chandanadeNNe = chandanada+ enne = aromatic oil made from sandalwood

Kempu= red 

kesari = saffron 

gandha = sandalwood paste

kasturi = musk (aromatic)

Champaka = Champaka flowers (shenbagam) modalaadha = similar 

pushpava = flowers

mudiyo = wear them/ decorate yourself with


Manchava = bed

haaside = is made

mallige hoo = Jasmine flowers  

tariside = is being brought 

munche = before/( ref here may be - don't delay)

bandu = come

malagayya = lie down

minchuthali= sparkling, radiant (ref may be - attractive)

chanchalaakshiyu = one who is restless (usually referred to Goddess Lakshmi)

ninna = you

idhiru noduthaale = is expecting

ಈ ಪರಿ ಪರಿ ವಿಧ ಪರಿಮಳದ ಎಣ್ಣೆ

ಕೆಂಪುಕೇಸರಿ ಗಂಧ ಕಸ್ತೂರಿಯು

Kempukesari gandha kasturiy

Please Wear/apply the red saffron, sandalwood and musk

ಚಂಪಕ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಪುಷ್ಪವ ಮುಡಿಯೋ

ಮಂಚವ ಹಾಸಿದೆ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೂ ತರಿಸಿದೆ

ಮುಂಚೆ ಬಂದು ಮಲಗಯ್ಯ ಮಿಂಚುತಲಿ
